Blog v Wiki

Two very similar websites, and at the same time very different. Wikis and Blogs, have become a very innovative device in today’s world. They are two type of website in which people can connect and transmit a message based on a topic. The main differential between Blog and Wiki, is the purpose and form of use. Wiki is a collaborative of a community, in which everyone can edit and their opinions into the same subject.  On the other hand, Blog is more personal and individual, but is also more interactive because users usually comment on each other. These two websites are very important in today's networked world. We can find important context and reference of many things and it also connects everyone to it.

Wiki can connect employees from  a work environment in a more efficiency and faster way. "Today, she said, they still produce the memo, but “now they attach a link to the Diplopedia article” — Diplopedia being a wiki, open to the contributions of all who work in the State Department.” (Cohen, Noam. “An Internal Wiki That’s Not Classified" , Aug. 4, 2008, nytimes.com.) A more advance way for meeting other business partners. Blog are also used in the networked world. Many of bloggers use the websites for advertisement. I believe is a great idea for putting your business and ideas out to the world. This can help the user who published the post, but else others who might be interested in the subject.

Blogs are a great form for collaboration. The fact that you are able to comment and communicate with others people's work, is a very smart strategy to gain knowledge and also offer your knowledge to others. “Wal-Mart says the Web site helps buyers solicit quick feedback from consumers on the merchandise — and shows a softer side of the giant company, which has 5,000 stores, 1.2 million workers and annual sales of nearly $400 billion.” (Barbaro, Michael. “Wal-Mart Tastemakers Write Unfiltered Blog” Mar. 3, 2008, nytimes.com.). Blogs are useful for everyone, not just for business and owners, but also for consumers.

The truth is, I’m not an expert on these websites yet; so there isn’t much I can say they should improve. For now, these two websites are great tools for everyone lives.

  1. Hey Nicole! Great work on this post on blogs and wikis. I like how you got straight to the point of differentiating blogs and wikis. A blog is personal, while wikis are more collaborative. Quick and straight to the point! I also wanted to note that the paragraph about blogs being collaborative is great! The reading you cited fits perfectly and accurately describes how a blog can be collaborative in its simplest terms.
